Teachers Pay Teachers: selling as a Canadian? A colleague tells me that Americans own the rights to materials they create and can therefore sell them on TpT Canadians, on the other hand, do not have the rights for materials they create while employed by a board (the board does!), and cannot legally sell them

We get the short end of the stick when it comes to pay and curriculum, having a reasonable platform to sell materials would be an easy win for everyone So much spending goes towards textbooks and online subscriptions that barely get used while so much of the curriculum that is actually being used was created by broke teachers off the clock and shared among coworkers and Facebook groups for free

I've run a Google classroom for teachers in my subject area 2 teachers shared their work and 125 others just downloaded it all The amount of free sharing in any major form is very very small I've also seen teachers quit teaching to design resources and make more money and also people in the industries around that earning good money

My goal is to make enough to pay for my Adobe subscription If it takes me less than an hour, I post it for free If it takes me more than an hour I charge I don't charge much because I am cognizant of broke teachers like myself five years ago, so I don't make much after commission, but I am not going to post what I don't use

My school shares everything between all teachers and we have 200+ staff who generally share willingly with everyone because everyone else shares back I just feel that TPT is another way teachers have to fund their own classroom and curriculum but from other teachers that know the struggles of teaching paying for your own supplies curriculum etc on an already low salary

I even pay a teacher-driven company for content out of pocket but I have convinced my principal to pay for their trainings (Stats Medic is GOLD) And if a teacher’s access to the market is TPT, that’s fine I just think perpetuating teachers paying ANYONE for curriculum and content rather than the school, district, or state is a bad system

In college I was told teachers "beg, borrow, and steal" everything they can The best ideas I have are from other teachers and when I need to grab a PowerPoint quick, I look for one I have 3 kids, I don't have money to spend on school Thanks for being a sharing person Wish I knew more like you
