Looking for ways to realistically price my used car for a private sale (kbb does not seem accurate to me) I have looked over Autotrader to find similar cars for sale but find it hard to come up with a private sale number vs dealer advertisements Are there any databases that show the prices of completed sales?

Most used car listings are priced pretty close to what the seller is expecting (i e , you might get $500 off, but not much more than that) Current sale listings are a better gauge of the current market that something like KBB which depends on past (not current) data

The feeling that I get is that KBB is kind of the DuckDuckGo of car valuation sites: used to be really good and objective source of information but somewhere along the way they sold out and are now inflating valuations to support dealership margins

Thinking about trading in my current car since due to the vehicle shortage its value has shot up several thousand dollars, and minus what I owe I can potentially have a good amount to put toward the down-payment of my next vehicle On the flip side, cars I will be looking at will also have higher price tag for the same reason

Manufacturer sets the residual value, and it is typically a percentage of the msrp between 40-60% The only place online that you can reliably get this info is on edmunds lease forums, but I don’t know if they have info for the uk and on this vehicle specifically yet

Used cars are inflated right now anyway, insurance companies will only look at the red book value typically I just looked at my own car, $56k red book value, but privately they go for around $65-70k Go with agreed value next time, but your premiums will be higher (most likely, becauseyoure agreeingto a higher value)

Check the KBB private party value and also look to see what the same year and trim with roughly the same mileage is selling for on the various car shopping websites (Cars com, AutoTrader, CarMax, Carvana, Etc) The average will give you a fairly accurate representation on the current market value of the car
