Azienda News:
- How reliable is Wikitree? Would you say it is more (or less . . . - Reddit
WikiTree is a good source for information as long as you verify the source(s) given They are fairly accurate because it is a large amount of people working together on creating the world's tree Any mistakes inaccuracies found by a member can be corrected and labeled as to why the change was made including sources
- Wikitree-what is it and should I use it? : r Genealogy - Reddit
The owner of WikiTree has previously been asked to consider making the text of WikiTree available under a Creative Commons license Despite his libertarian connections, he has refused to implement an open license of the profile data on WikiTree as (my inference) he wishes to control the monetization of the information and prevent others from duplicating the material
- Wikitree, what does this community think? : r Genealogy - Reddit
Wikitree supports and encourages good sourcing, which I appreciate, and has good scope for writing good narrative bios for ancestors, as well as research notes in cases of more complicated research I use wikitree as my main platform for displaying my research, sharing with cousins etc One of the big strengths of wikitree are their projects
- Wikitree : r Genealogy - Reddit
WikiTree is the most reliable of the "world trees" - an attempt at a family tree which any member can edit, and eventually would link millions of different people It's nice that WikiTree focuses very heavily on the research aspect of genealogy, and places a lot of importance on sources
- Whats your opinion on Wikitree? : r Genealogy - Reddit
Wikitree really encourages this (indeed, the "Biography" section looks kind of sad and blank without something there; whenever I create a new profile I feel like should write at least a few lines summarizing what I know about the person), plus I can have contextual photos (like of places where people lived), newspaper sources, book sources, etc
- WikiTree reviews? : r Genealogy - Reddit
WikiTree is a shared tree and because of that, what the records say is the correct current last name overrides individual preference If someone has worked with multiple volunteer mentors over many months and still shows they cannot collaborate nicely with other members, their account will be closed
- WikiTree admits to data breach : r Genealogy - Reddit
WikiTree blocked my e-mail address, so I can no longer message its members, even those I share ancestors with I was a member for several years, and in addition to profiles, I created some free-space pages, some working with other members, and some of those are now red-locked and I can't even view them
- Genealogy after leaving WikiTree : r Genealogy - Reddit
No, the link goes to a lengthy thread posted by the OP which explains in detail some strategies to back-up or transfer information from WikiTree, as the operators of that site can be fickle and irascible It may be hosted in what you describe as a "grievance subreddit", but it is useful information which many fail to consider when using WikiTree
- Blocked from WikiTree : r Room_2562 - Reddit
Open discussion of WikiTree issues, forbidden in the public G2G forum, including commentary and criticism related to Conflict Escalation, censorship, doublethink, dishonesty, dissent Moderators determine content relevancy at their sole discretion Banned members denied the opportunity to respond to a WikiTree "public review" may respond here
- How accurate are wikitree, family search, and geni? : r Genealogy - Reddit
I use WikiTree, most people cite their sources there but always check Geni is hardly ever accurate, people somehow are giving birth after there death or getting married before they were born Personally I'd use those sites as clues or possible leads, but not as a source
