- led - Sizing a landscape lighting transformer - Home Improvement Stack . . .
LED lighting is such a game changer for both low voltage and line voltage installations A bit of History: With LV wiring using old style incandescent bulbs at 12 volts required careful sizing and layout of wiring Voltage drop was a huge consideration Even an 18 watt bulb at 12 volts would draw 1 5 amps
- 12vac Landscape Lighting Transformer - 12vdc? - Home Improvement Stack . . .
I have a dead outdoor lighting transformer Not realizing it was VAC I looked on Amazon for a replacement The bulbs are what I thought to be 12vdc I received the new outdoor lighting transformer and it didn't appear to work, nothing lit up
- Outdoor lights stay on - Home Improvement Stack Exchange
Get a little power through the lighting (load) circuit, even when "off" This works great with incandescent lights It does not work well, if at all, with fluorescent or LED lights Depending on the amount of power needed and the particular lights, you can end up with: lights on, lights dim, lights flickering or timer etc simply not work at all
- lighting - LED bulb on outdoor light fixture blinking - Home . . .
Brand new LED light bulbs were installed in each fixture and all was good After a few months, one of the bulbs when turned on would always be consistently blinking Wanting to rule out an issue with the fixture, I connected the bulb to the other fixture as a test and it was flashing in that one as well so I assumed this was just a bad bulb
- LED bulb replacement in Dusk-Dawn Outdoor 175W light
Cost savings is in aiming, not LED Fact is, halide lights are about as efficient as LED If you go with a corncob LED, you won't save any money unless the LED is less bright: this is a common con-job when selling LEDs I saw one ad claiming their 45 watt, 3300 lumen LED is more efficient that the 175 watt metal halide
- What are the pros and cons of LED vs CFL vs incandescent bulbs for . . .
The main problem with LEDs is they don't make much heat, so they make the fixture more prone to ice accumulation That said, you are still better off with an LED and a thermostat-controlled heater in the fixture, rather than an incandescent A friend uses an incandescent to heat the den of his outdoor cat, which is a real problem when it burns out
- Why wont a LED bulb work in a standard light fixture?
Since it was an older fixture (installed in the 80's, I think), the hot contact (Number 1 in this diagram) was bent down, and it was connecting with the smaller bulb but not the bigger LED bulb With the circuit turned off at the breaker I reached in with a wooden tongue depressor and bent it upwards slightly
- lighting - Why dont replacement bulbs work in my outdoor fixtures . . .
I have three outdoor lamps that sit above my front door and garage The light bulbs recently went out so I thought I would replace them all and keep them uniform The ones I removed were 60w, bright white, LED, looks like candelabra base I tried replacing them with three different light bulbs which I thought were similar, but none of them worked!
- lighting - Why are my LED bulbs pulsing flashing? - Home Improvement . . .
And the LED power supply can not handle it And Or the transformer doesn't understand the LED load and keeps switching itself on and off This page explains it better (It's too much text to copy into here ) Your choices are finding a different LED (the page lists an option), or bighting the bullet and changing the transformer
- Can I extend #12 wire with #14 wire for landscape lighting?
OTOH, using the 14 on it's own isn't really dangerous over 20' of lighting-level load, and if you're using LED lights, you likely won't notice the minor voltage drop on lights 20' away from the others If your system is AC, check your local regulations or just get more 12AWG
