- Midland - MXT400 - Pros and Cons? | RadioReference. com Forums
I've been doing some research on the Midland - MXT400 GMRS radio, and have questions about it 1) It claims to put out 40 watts of power some who have put a meter on it claims it only puts out 35 watts Which is correct? 2) I know GMRS is line of sight, with that being said, used as a base
- Antenna options for the Midland MXT400 UHF antenna 450-470 range.
If so, I need an adapter for my MXT400 The Larsen NMO 150 450 800 Antenna is used on a BCD436HP If I am correct the SO-239 antenna jack for the MXT400 would need to be male and for the other end (PL-259) would be female?

The MXT400 is not FCC certified for, nor even tested for, a wide band emission designator like 16K0F3E It is a 10K5F3E - narrow FM If this software actually opens up the deviation to "wide band" , it does so while invalidating the FCC certification
- Which 5 watt handheld to use as a mobile with MXT400 GMRS Base?
I have 2 of the Midland MXT400 GMRS Radios You will need a second MXT400 if you want to get any distance I also have a 5 watt MXT Midland mobile along with several Midland and Uniden handheld GMRS The handhelds and 5 watt mobile work great with line of site communications but with trees and buildings you will only get 1 3 or less miles at most
- Step up from Midland MXT400 class. . . to what?
From this thread NXT400 discussion in 2020 I gleaned that the Midland MXT400, now at over $250, is a big step up from bubble pack but as @mmckenna says does not match the capabilities of a Part 95 commercial radio Right away I spotted that it has only 3 power levels starting at 3w

Buying a DBR1 programming cable and downloaded the software to program my Midland MXT400 You CAN program it into wideband operation, you CAN program it for split CTSS DCS codes I have seen a lot of posts everywhere saying it is impossible to do so I also found that none of the repeater operators in my locale bothered with split PL codes

- What GMRS would you recommend for a Base Unit?
In a previous post, I asked about the pros and cons of the Midland MXT400 and got some great feedback I was going to ask this question in that thread but thought it might confuse matters by mix and matching thread questions, so I decided to post it here instead If I were going to purchase a

I am impressed My very limited experience with FRS radios is just swap meets and flea markets with my wife, and I bought a pair of Unidens for a Caribbean cruise that did not bode well on a cruise ship Once on an island they were pretty much line of sight I might very well look into some GMRS

This MXT400 is a decent radio, but a tad overpriced when compared to a second hand commercial rig like a Kenwood TK-8180 Also, the Midland does not do split tones for repeaters - different CTCSS DCS tones on transmit and receive This is a pretty big drawback for some GMRS users
