- Outboard mic Preamps SETUP : r audioengineering - Reddit
I'm going to buy soon two mic preamps (thinking about 1073 LB 500 series) for an upright piano in combination with two UAD Sp1 mics I want to get it very minimal but rich
- Could someone explain microphone pre-amps to me?
So, I'm considering swapping out my Rode NT1-A for an SM7B I like my RODE, and it does really well, but I'm not really recording in a studio setting and only ever recording my voice, so am considering swapping over to a pre-owned Shure, or at least getting one so I have a solid dynamic mic as well

There's not much chance that they will be noticeably better than your interface preamps (depending on the interface) They may have more features, and you may use those features, but they aren't a step up in quality

I have been reading, and in a lot of cases re-reading the threads on mic preamps I decided to ask anyway about outboard preamp suggestions for my home recording set up
- Does an external preamp optimize the SNR of an audio interface when . . .
If you have a preamp turned all the way up (especially an interface preamp, not some high end outboard gear), it is audibly noisy That means that if the SNR were the “best” at that point, the signal would be so incredibly loud that it’s clipping like crazy

The purpose would be to get an enhanced recording quality to microphone performances Any insight or experiences from the group regarding the use of mic preamps is greatly appreciated
- How much of a difference can a decent preamp really make? : r . . . - Reddit
To my ears, the preamps are crystal clear and sound great with almost everything I run through it That being said, the inexpensive mic I'm currently using for vocals is just okay It takes a pretty liberal amount of processing to beef the sound up and make vocal tracks sit nicely in a mix
