  • Japanese え sound - [ɛ] or [e]? - Japanese Language Stack Exchange
First, getting data from Japanese speakers on the Japanese え I will be taking 4 samples per sound per speaker because that seems like a reasonable amount of work to subject myself to I'll be looking for samples which have a clear, long え vowel because they'll be easier to accurately find the vowels in List of Speakers:
  • Differences among -たら, なら, -と, -んだったら, -ば, etc
In general, ~えば is considered to be the most 'catch-all' form, and some linguists say that ~ったら implies the effect follows the cause なら is quite different than both, since in the spoken language it's mostly used for the purpose of conveying uninternalized information, as described in Akatsuka's article
  • Why has を been spared but ゐ and ゑ been deemed obsolete?
これえ それえ わたくしえ there would be too much change from the original writing, and would be hard to be put into practice If only these particles are written as the original, other changes will mostly be hidden when kanji is used The new kana usage will not have too much change in actual writing
  • Long vowel e (ei or ee) - Japanese Language Stack Exchange
There are some exceptions where it is written with え such as ねえさん、but these are exceptions to the rule, and don't change pronunciation There are also a few other ways the vowel can be written as extended: sometimes the ー mark will be used just as in katakana, and sometimes a smaller え is used, for example when ending a sentence
  • How 「えい」 should be pronounced in the words like 英語, 先生, etc?
Short answer: The allowed pronunciations depends somewhat on the word origin For Sino-Japanese words (漢語), such as 英語<えいご> or 先生<せんせい>, the underlying vowel sequence is always ええ, but can be pronounced as either えい or ええ (despite its native orthography being <えい>)
  • あかさたなはまやらわ mnemonics - Japanese Language Stack Exchange
I mastered the sequences of あかさたなはまやらわ, いきしちにひみいりい, うくすつぬふむゆるう, えけせてねへめえれえ and おこそとのほもよろを using the latter half of this children's song (written by a famous poet), and this was probably when I was a kindergartner I still clearly remember these
  • What are the differences between じ and ぢ, and ず and づ?
In modern Japanese these pairs are pronounced exactly the same: ず, づ are pronounced either [dzu] or [zu] ; じ, ぢ are pronounced either [dʑi] or [ʑi]
  • meaning - What does かぎのあるヱ mean? - Japanese Language Stack . . .
However I found this from twitter: ‏@hirohito_bot 【昭和天皇逸話集】日常会話においても「い」と「ゐ」、「え」と「ゑ」の発音を区別していた。 Emperor Hirohito was born in 1901 in Tokyo, and perhaps would represent the pronunciation of then Japanese upper class speech at the time
