The A18 is good enough to where it ranks up there with my best amps There's really only one amp with which it begs to be compared: the Violectric V200 The Violectric is a solid state powerhouse which is priced within $100 of the A18 It's been my favorite solid state amp for over a year now, and has displaced several more expensive competitors

But the A18 is just incredibly musical to my ears (which admittedly aren't what they used to be) and it has a way of effortlessly making everything sound great -- or at least as great as it can given the material My only gripe is the small display and Gustard's refusal to show volume in large letters where it can be seen from a distance

Thus, running the A18 at 0 0dB (i e maximum volume to avoid volume changes in the AK4499 affecting the sound quality) should produce the best sound, right? That's what I'm currently doing and A18 --> XLR --> Arcam rHead head amp --> Beyer T1 2 sounds very nice I need to listen more to try to detect distortion

The A18 delivers the vigorous vocals, crunchy electric guitars and grand strings with a fervent eagerness that really highlights the epic nature of the track and sweeps you along with it Once again, the A18 created an expansive, organized stage where every element of the music occupies its own space

The A18 doesnt seem to be discussed all that much on head-fi or elsewhere for that matter, with all the bells and whistles it has at this price point that's a bit strange? Im looking to get one unless other fellow head-fiers have any better alternatives at this price range of sub 500usd
