Historically, bald eagles only came to Big Bear in the winter, to find food when their home lakes further north were frozen over More than 30 years ago, the Forest Service began conducting monthly Bald Eagle Counts during the winter months, December – March, to keep records on how many bald eagles wintered in our valley
