Hello all, I have been looking into the rules for mudding and taping sheetrock in attached garages The IRC states that attached garages should be sheetrock with 1 2" on wall ceiling and 5 8" on ceiling if living space is above There is no requirement from what I can see on taping and mudding

By code, one could use a portal frame to support a 20’ wide garage door, but not this case with a much smaller opening If the three windows were replaced with a triple, mulled unit, I would assume it would be acceptable, which seems somewhat ridiculous Portal frames are not just used for garage doors (except for the PFG)

One exit door of minimum width of 32", in a nonsprinklered bldg would provide egress for 160 person For the square footage provided that's 22 9375 sq ft per person Since the hazard is the vehicle with the gasoline or other fuel, I personally would use the parking garage (200 sq ft person gross) number if there were any questions
