- Why is idea sometimes pronounced as idear?
The word idear seems to be singled out for hypercorrection My hypothesis about this is that the phrase "idea of" occurs so often in English that people with non-rhotic accents are used to pronouncing an 'r' at the end of idea, because there is an intusive 'r' in the phrase "idea(r) of" –

This explanation of the “linking r” and the “intrusive r” is greatly simplified Some speakers will add “r” more generally, pronouncing “idea” and “soda” as idear and soder even at the end of a sentence And some speakers will drop “r” more generally, saying things like bettuh and fah even before vowels

r after vowels is reduced or eliminated "Idea" rhymes or almost rhymes with "sear," so that "idea" and "idear" would be homophones Some vowels have an associated "linking" semivowel If the following syllable starts with a vowel, this linking sound is added between them "Idea and" becomes "idea rand" which sounds the same as "idear rand "

- Is it a German thing to pronounce idea idear, data dater . . . - Reddit
No idea if this is a German thing, if so I never noticed But I don't speak English with Germans that often If this occurs in the middle of a sentence and the words are followed by other words that start with a vowel, it could be a 'linking r' Many English speakers use this, if a word ends with a vowel followed by another vowel: "idear of"
