I tried making a bootable USB drive from the latest Ubuntu Desktop iso (SHA256 checks good) using Balena Etcher That attempt threw the same error message (well except for the iso file name of course)

When I was on the 3rd step of the Canonical Ubuntu Tutorials Install Ubuntu Desktop guide the following error code always appears: I was using balenaEtcher as the tutorial said to create a bootable USB stick Any idea what it means? My latest try was with Ubuntu 24 04 for desktops and I was trying it on a Windows 10 laptop

On arch linux, installed https: aur archlinux org packages etcher-bin from the AUR and it works, https: aur archlinux org packages balena-etcher shows the error For what is worth, the etcher-bin pkg was last updated 2023-07-15, while balena-etcher was updated 2023-12-20

There does seem to be a known bug around this issue You could try running Balana as an administrator If that does not work try an older release, someone on the bug said v1 18 11 worked for them on Windows You can download the exe for any version from the GitHub releases e g : https: github com balena-io etcher releases tag v1 18 11
