Never had a problem finding stuff to do in Kyoto (days and evenings packed) The time in Osaka felt about right, we didn't do any side trips (had planned to but Kyoto was too entertaining to leave) If you want big city vibes stay in Osaka, if you want to explore a more historical city with better access to nature then Kyoto is better

We are at A Happy Pancake Kyoto and had the BEST soufflé pancakes for breakfast we have ever had Waited 45 mins and don’t regret a second of it!! There are also fantastic cocktails at Scotch and Branch We had great Mitarashi dango near the train station at Arashiyama, but it was a long wait and very crowded

5 days in Kyoto or 5 days in Kansai? For Kyoto itself, I think 5 days is a reasonable amount of time, but if you're using it as a base for Kansai I would recommend at least a couple more for at least day trips to Nara, Osaka, and Himeji (possibly with Kobe) For Kyoto itself, I answered almost this exact question a couple of years ago in this

By the way, I also visited the Kyoto International Manga Museum if you are into that stuff Enjoy you Japan travels! Edited: There is a Ghibli warehouse in Nagoya if time permits you to travel from Osaka (or Kyoto) to Nagoya if you missed the Ghibli museum in Tokyo, but check if there are any available tickets
