- Aside from my primary physician, who else can prescribe Propecia?
A nurse practitioner, physician's assistant, or even a dentist can probably prescribe Propecia from a legal perspective Helpful Jae Pak, MD Hair Restoration Surgeon, Board Certified in Emergency Medicine
- Coming off of Propecia. Can you just stop taking it, or do . . . - RealSelf
It's fine to just stop taking it- but it is always a good idea to talk it over with your doctor before making changes to your medication routine It takes ~2-3 weeks for it to completely leave your system, at which point you'll begin to see your shedding resume (and should see those side effects subside if it is the Propecia that is causing them)
- Does propecia cause gynecomastia often, or is it very rare? - RealSelf
The relationship between gynecomastia and propecia is known, but fortunately rare I would guess its appearance is about 1:1000 patients taking propecia When it happens, it can be a problem as stopping the drug often does not reverse the condition if breast nodules appear If you have such a problem, go see your doctor
- I would like to quit Propecia for a little while? (photo) - RealSelf
It's been our experience that if you quite taking Propecia for 2 months that you will likely experience some shedding No one can tell you how much In order to preserve what you have, I would start laser treatments (Luce), which have no side effects, to help stabilize the situation, than get off the Propecia
- Do propecia side effects go away with continued use? - RealSelf
The studies have shown that the side effects of propecia should go away with continued use in 60% of patients However, there is an after market addition to the package insert that states that there have been reports of persistent side effects (post finasteride syndrome) even after discontinuation of the medicine
- Is Propecia more effective than Proscar for treating hair loss? - RealSelf
Propecia and Proscar are essentially the same drug ie Finasteride Finasteride reduces the production of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) Excess DHT causes miniaturization of the hair follicle, resulting in hair becoming very short and fine over time before falling out
- Can Finasteride or Propecia cause diabetes? - RealSelf
Finasteride (Propecia and generics) inhibits the enzyme 5αR2 selectively, whereas dutasteride inhibits both 5αR1 and 5αR2 In 2010, Duskova and colleagues examined 12 men with premature balding who used Finasteride (1 mg day) for 12 months
- Does shaving your head improve the results of propecia and . . . - RealSelf
In short, hair length should have nothing to do with the mechanism of action for Propecia (finasteride) Minoxidil's success rate is quite marginal to begin with all things considered, but it is my opinion as a physician and a former user of Minoxidil that as long as you massage it into the scalp, hair length should not affect it's efficacy
