As some of you NYC brewers know its a pain in the butt to find a place that refills co2 tanks in our area I live in Brooklyn and had to trek to the last stop in Queens and walk for 20 mins for a place that would do it Recently I had to refill a tank and tried calling a few places in Manhattan that were fire extinguisher type stores

The cost around here is about $80 to purchase a full 5# aluminum tank, and exchanges are in the $20-$25 ballpark, even from a local welding shop I called around a while back, and as I recall I could go to an extinguisher service guy (runs the company from his house IIRC) and it'd be a bit less for a CO2 refill I don't know about 10# tanks

They do both of my C02 tanks and my Nitrogen tank 5 pound c02 refill is $12 and 10 pounds is $15 You can also buy tanks from them for much less than you probably paid for your aluminum I bought my aluminum online for about 90 I bought a 10 pound tank from them which they built out of an old fire extinguisher for $40, filled

I'm in the Atlanta area and Brew Depot charges 16 bucks to refill a 5# tank The old shop I used to go to charged me like $30 to do an exchange Would rather refill my nice shiny tanks Doesn't matter either way I guess, but they are somewhat nicer to look at I paid thirty bucks to fill my nitrogen (beer gas) tank at Sidney Lee Welding Supply

For no more than 1-2 fills a year, I would think an extra tank would serve you better $80 and you can have one on standby, and not need to rush on your refill I do refill the small propane bottles from a 20#, but there’s no hose to worry about; it’s a solid brass adapter and the 20# tank is stable on the top handle
