- New Beat vs Quick Beat | Drummerworld Forum
The Quick Beats came out in the late 70s early 80s - you guessed it- disco era They're nice sounding hats - but they do get a little fatiguing - but I'm into medium lighter hi hats - ones that shup well and sizzle nicely when half open They're kind of a funk disco hat and too heavy for Jazz

While New Beats (medium over heavy) may be beefy compared some of the K and A Customs (medium-thin over medium), they're still lighter than Quick Beats (medium-heavy over heavy), Rocks (heavy over extra-heavy), and are right in the same weight class as standard K hats (also medium over heavy)

In Zildjian-speak, New Beats are a medium top over a heavy bottom, and Quick Beats are a medium-heavy top over a heavy bottom So obviously, you're running a medium top over a medium-heavy bottom, which isn't exactly the same thing

I really dug mine Had them years ago, but I can't remember why I ever sold them (might have been after I got the 15" New Beats) I use Sabian now, and I have been thinking about getting a set of 15" fast hats (what they call Quick Beats) Quick Beats are pretty cool hats, so if these are in great condition, and you like the sound, jump on it

Quick Beats are heavy cymbals Actually, it's a medium-heavy top over a heavy bottom The bottom cymbal is unique with no bell and 4 holes drilled into it The holes let the air out so they don't get vapor locked Rock Hats are a heavy top over an extra-heavy bottom, so as a pair, they are considerably heavier than the QB

Which brings me to the 70s New Beats WOW, those are some special cymbals there! For me those would be my "everything" hi hats The Quick Beats were also really great, especially when playing that second groove The clarity that Quick Beats are known for designed for really stood out in the second groove Thanks for sharing!

It's not bad, as it gives the Quick Beat the "quickness" I'm not a fan of the overly high pitch of my former pair, though, and mind you that I'm not a fan of low-pitched hi-hats such as a 15" 2002 pair
