The newer SG Standards (T) don't have the horn tapering or the deeper wider beveling between the horn tip and neck The HP version have retained the wider deeper bevels, and the horn tapering Why they make 2 different body spec's, I don't know, unless some prefer the shallower narrower beveling, and no horn tapering

that depends alot on your budget and what you are looking for I recently scored a '01 SG Special off ebay in near perfect condition with a new hardshell case shipped for $500 00, thats a great guitar IMO, the inlays and cosmetic things werent that critical to me so a special worked great for me, I still GAS for a 61 reissue but they are SO expensive and at this time my budget wont allow that
