I have slides from 5 different processing facilities On all of them, the numbered side is the "shiny" side and the side with the company info (when present) is the emulsion side If held at the right angle, you can actually see the image relief on the emulsion side

Checking my notes, 41 pistols had replacement slides of which 34 had post-1945 mfg slides (most commonly Cage code number 53397, FSN number 7790314, or, no visible stamp marks), 2 were 1938-1943 mfg replacement slides (marked US MODEL 1911 A1 US ARMY), and 5 were Colt mfg commercial civilian slides (likely series 70 type)
