  • Rate my steelhead rig | IFish Fishing Forum
Try out Kelly green yarn with a pink pearl corkie It's excellent for steelhead and chinook in clear water I personally like size 2 Gamakatsu barbless hooks If you have to clamp them anyways, use a hook designed to work without a barb I also use 12lb fluorocarbon all summer, down to as little as 65 crystal clear cfs
  • A guide to Plunking: the gear | IFish Fishing Forum
The Columbia is a much larger river, the Alsea a much smaller river, so keep in mind this is for Willamette spring chinook and summer steelhead above the falls in the Salem area and upriver to Albany or so First, most fish travel where a 4 ounce pyramid sinker will hold your gear on 50 pound monofilament mainline
  • Winter steelhead thread. | IFish Fishing Forum
Hoping to revive this “winter steelhead thread” which appears to be on life support…but went out for the first trip of the year and found this 31 5” buck Saw a handful of fish caught, heard of a few more and am hoping to see many more posted to this thread
  • Silezt Summer Steelhead | IFish Fishing Forum
Gonna try some summer steelhead tomorrow Kinda sad that my life has consumed me so much that this will be my first trip in about 2 years Don't know how many of you fish the Silezt, but it's my favorite steelhead river hands down!!!!! Once upon a time I was a regular feature on this river, this is going to be true again 🤘
  • steelhead yarnies | IFish Fishing Forum
It is still my favorite way to fish for steelhead, probably caught 2K - 3K steelhead this way All I do is use two alternate color pieces of yarn, each about 1 inch long attached to the hook through an egg loop No where near as pretty as those 'yarnies' I see, but Steelhead aren't looking for a pretty round ball of fuzz, just colored fuzz
  • Steelhead secrets | IFish Fishing Forum
Steelhead prefer moving water in the 5 to 10 foot range to hold up in Water that's moving at a fair walking pace Looks for slots below fast water and narrow slots along tailouts They prefer to hang around structure, like ledges and rocks, along current seams Learn the holding waters and you'll be able to fish steelhead everywhere
  • Best all around steelhead rod reel combo. | IFish Fishing Forum
If you get the chance to check a steelhead guides boat check out their reels I bet over 50% of the reels are pflueger presidents It's because they are very cheap, they operate very smoothly, and are pretty dang reliable Sand, salt, whatever They are nice little reels for $60 My main steelhead rod is $450 rod with a cheap-O Plueger reel
  • Bead fishing suggestions | IFish Fishing Forum
I have fished beads for a number of years and prefer soft beads to hard ones for drift fishing Drift fishing is my favorite way to target steelhead as I like to feel the subtle bite that drift fishing provides I routinely use 10-12mm beads but will go to a 14mm bead during the Winter I have also used beads while bobber doggin with some success
