15 "Stereo Mix" is the name given to the output stream (presented as a virtual audio device) after all channels have been combined It's a mix of all the channels, and is sometimes referred to (in the past anyway) as "What you hear" There's usually very little nothing you can configure about it because it's only job is to present the mixed
- Whats the reason behind Stereo Mix becoming a missing option?
Several newer computers I've worked on (Dell, mainly) are using IDT or Realtek drivers which lack the Stereo Mix option in audio recording devices I've tried all kinds of methods including instal

Stereo mix is gone Instead of trying idiotic solutions like using old drivers (all realtek HDA drivers before 8856 are vulnerable) that have known security vulnerabilities, learn the new way of recording digitally

Stereo Mix not recording anything I have no idea why this isn't working I have disabled all outputs and inputs except for Realtek Digital Output as output and Stereo Mix as input Both at 100% volume Checking unchecking "Listen to this device" doesn't do anything nor does connecting a headset through a jack

If you have a spare drive that you can use that would be the best way to clean install as that wouldn't mess up your system drive, in case things don't change (but if Stereo Mix records with the clean install then you know what is needed) Just install Windows and needed drivers including the Gigabyte Realtek driver and Audacity - nothing else
