Docker Desktop is configured to use the WSL 2 engine It enters Resource Saver after 5 minutes When Docker Desktop is in Resource Saver mode, if I start a WSL instance, I do not get the prompt All I see is a blank terminal I have to click Docker Desktop to bring it out of Resource Saver, and then I will get a prompt in WSL

Since Docker Desktop depends on WSL2: you can google on how to install WSL2 If WSL2 is working, Docker Desktop should be working as well, as it runs the Docker Engine as WSL2 distribution on the WSL2 utility vm

The same happens when I uninstall Docker Desktop and install v4 37 1 or v4 38 0 from scratch: var run docker sock doesn’t exist Any idea why var run docker sock doesn’t exist anymore for these newer Docker Desktop version and how to deal with this issue? I faced the same issue and here are the steps which I followed, and it worked for me Uninstall the current Docker Desktop Remove any docker folder from your user directory Clean the %temp% folder Unregister docker-desktop using WSL Run wsl --update Reinstall Docker Desktop Restart Windows
