This happens to me too, but only with files copied to an external NTFS hard drive from a mac using NTFS-3g The video file works in every other video player I have (Media Player Classic, DivX Player, Windows Media Player) just not in VLC It 's somehow the combination of "file created through NTFS-3g" + "VLC" that equals no video playback
