The purpose of this paper is to briefly explain report 160 of the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurement and the significance of the report to medical imaging as a whole and nuclear medicine specifically
- NCRP Report Number 160: Its Significance to Medical Imaging
According to NCRP Report No 160, the largest increase in radiation exposure to the US population compared with the previous report is found to be from patient exposure to medical procedures

“According to their analysis, the next Solar Maximum should peak around 2010 with a sunspot number of 160 plus or minus 25 This would make it one of the strongest solar cycles of the past fifty years—which is to say, one of the strongest in recorded history ”

With their release of a new report titled Ionizing Radiation Exposure of the Population of the United States (Report No 160, 2009), the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) shares information about the increase in average medical radiation doses received by members of the public
- NCRP Report No. 160 on increased average radiation exposure of the US . . .
The new NCRP report falls squarely into this controversy because it estimates the total U S exposure to all sources of ionizing radiation has increased six-fold since 1980 — with about half of this increase due to CT scans
- untitled [www. aapm. org]
This Report evaluates the doses to the U S population from all sources of ioniz-ing radiation for 2006, with particular attention to those sources that contribute the largest shares, and provides some information on doses that individuals may experience due to their specific cir-cumstances
