There's very few places in the world uniformly that dry, there are always pockets of moisture to preserve life, such as wadis If it's that dry, however, you don't necessarily need springtails to eat mould as it'll be mostly too dry for mould

You might have an issue keeping isopods and especially springtails alive in such a dry environment But for the quantity issue, there are two things you could do- either start the colony in a separate container and keep that going as backup, or leave the viv uninhabited besides the isopods for a few months

Springtails and isopods definitely work! You just have to provide them with a moist spot in the tank I have sphagnum moss and sponges under cork bark that I keep wet for them Arid springtails, powder blue and powder orange isopods are what I use for my arid bioactive setup
