I didn't have diverticulitis after surgery, but about 1-1 2 years later I had an intestinal bleed Not sure if the diverticulitis caused it or if diverticulitis was a result of it - I'd gotten very chilled and dehydrated the day before, and that may have caused an episode of ischemic colitis Either way, it was unpleasant, that's for sure

If inflammation occurs it is called diverticulitis There can be problems as a result of this condition but most people who have it don't even know it and it is usually discovered when being examined for some other reason (That's my case ) In fact, most people eventually do develop diverticulosis, at least those of us in the Western world do
