Not sure if it's mentioned here or not but in case it hasn't, if you want to open an Experian account to easily freeze and unfreeze your credit, be extra vigilant when signing up I wasn't paying attention and thought the questions they were asking was just part of the process, turns out in addition to a free account, I signed up to a online banking account Nowhere during this process did it

If Experian was already frozen it makes sense they would not tell you that online -- you wouldn't want any random person to go in and find that out if they know your SSN Just mail in your request with 2 forms of ID, also ask for them to send you a copy of your credit report and look for anything you don't recognize

You can still freeze your credit, but fraud alert is even better This is simply not true While a fraud alert adds an extra verification step, a credit freeze is considered the stronger protection since it completely restricts access to your credit report for new creditors unless you proactively allow it So while it is nice that you only have to apply a fraud alert one time to have it apply

I’d like to sign up for a security freeze account at Experian, and the website offers a choice between a "Free Membership" and an "Experian Service Account" Does anyone know what the difference between them is? The Free Membership seems to offer additional services, such as FICO scores, and I’m wondering whether there is any downside to selecting it (or to selecting the service account)
